Lotto Max Canada started its operations on September 25, 2009 replacing the previous game known as Lotto Super 7. The aim was to offer players a more sparkling game with a higher minimum jackpot than the previous one, starting at 10. million Canadian dollars rather than the 2.5 million offered by the Super 7 Lotto.
Players have to choose seven numbers from 1 to 49. To these are added two other sets of numbers that are automatically generated when the bets are purchased giving the player three chances to win. Players must match all seven numbers for a chance to hit the jackpot, but winning the prizes starts with matching just three numbers. Players have a final chance to win a prize by drawing an additional eighth number, the Bonus Number or Bonus Ball, which will allow them to win secondary prizes.
Canada Lotto Max drawing calendar
Canada’s Lotto Max draws take place once a week at 9:10 PM ET East Coast Time in a private television studio in Ontario. Ticket sales close one hour before the draw, at 8pm (ET, East Coast Time Zone) or at an equivalent time in areas of the planet whose time is marked by a different time zone. . The numbers and prize pool distribution details for both the Lotto Max lottery and MaxMillions prizes (when any) will be available on this site shortly after each draw.
How to Play and Win at the Canada Lotto Max
Players choose the seven numbers from a matrix ranging from 1 to 49. And they can either choose their own numbers or opt to play a Quick Pick, which will automatically generate their bets. For each line played, two more lines will be generated, thus giving players three chances of winning. In some regions, players have the option of buying up to 12 numbers, which increases the odds of matching the numbers drawn. On the night of the draw, all numbers are naturally drawn, followed by the additional number, the bonus number. This number allows players to win extra prizes by matching this number along with three or six numbers. However, players cannot choose their own bonus number; this simply gives them a last chance to win a cash prize.
To win the Canadian Loto Max lottery, players must match three numbers upwards. Matching three numbers gives you a chance to win a free spin for the next draw, while higher prize categories give cash prizes. To win the jackpot, players must match all seven numbers. The jackpot is always worth 10 million Canadian dollars and if there are no players able to match all seven numbers, it accumulates for the next draw. The lottery has a jackpot cap of CAD$50,000,000.
When the jackpot hits $50 million, another game is triggered. While Canada’s Lotto Max jackpot cannot exceed CAD $50,000,000, every additional CAD million that is added by selling tickets to the jackpot triggers an additional draw called MaxMillions. For each million Canadian dollars raised, a separate MaxMillions draw is held, each requiring a player to match all seven numbers to win. However, unlike Lotto Max, there are no additional prizes. Players automatically enter the MaxMillions draw when the jackpot reaches CAD $50 million by purchasing a Lotto Max ticket.
Example: If the total value of the prize pool is CAD $60,000,000, Lotto Max reduces it to CAD $50,000,000 and creates another ten CAD $1,000,000 prizes that will be up for grabs in Maxmillion draws. This means that there will be a total of seven draws taking place on the same evening as the main draw, so each player has eleven chances to win a jackpot.
The Lotto Max jackpot can be won independently of the MaxMillions jackpot and vice versa. If the Lotto Max jackpot is won, the remaining MaxMillions prizes that have not been won will be added to the next week’s Lotto Max draw to reach the guaranteed minimum jackpot amount. If the MaxMillions prizes are not won, and the Lotto Max jackpot exceeds CAD $50 million, these prizes accrue to the next week’s draw.
